In Part I, Paige describes Nicholas as grand, as someone who is not conceited but above mere mortals. She sees Nicholas as perfection.... the man she has been waiting her whole life to meet. This is a difficult description for a man to live up to and foreshadows the rest of the novel as the reader wonders if Nicholas is really the demi-god that Paige sees him as. Someone this high on a pedestal is sure to fall off --the reader must wonder what will happen when he does.
