What is the theme in Han's Crime by Shiga Naoya?

One major theme in the story is guilt and innocence. This theme is illustrated through exposing what Han is actually guilty of..... as opposed to the things of which he is innocent. Was he guilty of premeditated murder..... or was his decision spontaneous? Further more..... could it have been an accident?
