Pip doesn't want to be a blacksmith for a few reasons. The blacksmiths that he lives with are not kind to him at all and Mrs. Joe takes every opportunity to remind Pip that it has been a hardship taking him in. Secondly, after Pip meets Estella he longs to become a gentleman; one that Estella would want to marry.
pip doesnt want t be a blacksmith because he is scared that estella will se him with a black face and hands and laugh at him and hold him in contempt
