i thought he spent 100 pounds to get herbert a job instead of half of the money
Pip invests the money in his friend, Herbert because he realizes that he is a 'better man' than he is in many respects. Herbert has not allowed circumstances to change him and he is a simple person with simple desires. Pip finally understands what the money has done to him and he is attempting to do something good with it.
