Book II introduces the discussion of education, which is a key concern for Socrates as the imaginary republic is constructed. It should always be kept in mind that the city is symbolic of the individual, which makes it safe to assume that the lessons about education apply equally to individual development: Being brought up well is essential to being a just man.
