Jefferson Davis was elected the President of the Confederate States of America after the southern states secedes from the Union. He is described as a wise and courageous man, who was willing to ride out to the front lines during the Battle of Fair Oaks. Towards the end of the novel, Davis is described as looking tired and haggard from the stress of the presidency.
