Sonya Robinson is Ben's mother. She did not have much formal education. She was born in rural Tennessee and had 23 siblings. She escaped an unhappy childhood by marrying Ben's mother at the age of 13. Sonya had only a third grade education. She learned to read much later into her adulthood.
