In short, this poem details a memory of the speaker in which she was a child visiting her grandmother along with her parents. The setting then moves forward to the present as she watches her own daughter gather Easter eggs and mournfully admits that she finds herself "too quickly, / in the here-and-now moment of my fortieth year."
