Why does Lodovinco publicly break with Galileo?

Lodovinco very publicly breaks his ties with Galileo when he resumes his studies into astronomy. He believed that Galileo's actions put him in danger. The public severing of ties included Lodovinco's breaking off his engagement to Galileo's daughter.
