Who is Erica Small from Forever... and what is their importance?

Erica is Katherine's best friend. Unlike Katherine, who tries to put Michael off, Erica thinks she'd like to lose her virginity just to get it over with. Thus, we're shocked when by the end of the novel, Erica is happy she hasn't and has decided that she's going to wait for the right guy to come along.... and make it meaningful.
