Social order is a recurring idea. There can be no question that one of the primary themes throughout the novel is the differences in dimensions in relation to form, movement, and space. As Abbott's character of A. Square journeys through no dimensional, one dimensional, two dimensional, and three dimensional space, he meets a variety of characters representing each dimension, and has the opportunity to speak with, or at least overhear, each character explaining their own view of their own dimension.
