Who is Louis Edward Nolan from Flashman at the Charge and what is their importance?

Nolan is the staff galloper or messanger for General Airey. He is described as brash, enthusiastic, and temperamental..... even going so far as to publicly berate Lord Lucan for his delay in the charge of the Light Brigade. Nolan is killed during that charge.
