Who is Taylor Poarch from First, Do No Harm and what is their importance?

When Fran (and Carey) gives birth to twins, Taylor is the firstborn. Her lungs are underdeveloped, and she is immediately placed on a ventilator.... unable to breathe on her own. After many, many weeks, her parents, with the assistance of the Ethics Committee, make the decision to remove the ventilator and let her go.
