Troy's largest weakness is that he doesn't think that his life is special enough and so he invents these larger than life situations that never occured. For example, in some of the earlier chapters he tells Bono and Rose that he's been in an ongoing struggle with the actual figure of Death. The fact that Troy can't tell reality from fiction becomes evident and is what acts as the catalyst for the other characters and their interactions with him. Rose confronts him each time about the lies he tells about himself, whereas Bono often is sucked into the delusion.
