"Fable" was originally written in Spanish, and there are no doubt stylistic elements in the poem that are not captured in the English language. However, it is very much a poem that relies on visual images and ideas, which are effectively rendered in translation. The first fourteen lines of the poem, in which paradise is described, move slowly and languidly. There is a clear absence of grammatical structure from the beginning—in the first six lines of the poem there is no complete sentence at all—yet there is a clear sense of movement and easy rhythmic flow.
