What is the author's style in Ethnic America: A History by Thomas Sowell?

Sowell takes a very different perspective. He does not deny that institutional, "external" factors are important. In fact, he gives a particularly illuminating picture of the ways in which discrimination disadvantages blacks to this very day. However, he is also willing to pay attention and place emphasis on factors that social scientists on the left resist accounting for.
