Ender's Game

In Chapter 7, why do they mention that Ender always leaves his food unfinished? Is that important to the story?

This may be a device by the author to suggest that Ender is very disciplined, always leaving a portion of his food instead of gobbling everything down like the others. It is also a way of distinguishing himself from the rest. Therefore, as a characterization it is important to the story.
