Who is Mr. Arbuthnot from The Enchanted April and what is their importance?

Mr. Arbuthnot, like the others, struggles with issues related to individuality and self-fulfillment. He is, however, the only one with an actual second identity..... an identity that allows him to fulfill his physical needs but which fails to fulfill his emotional and spiritual need. He is attracted to Lady Caroline because she can fulfill the physical needs his wife refuses. Unfortunately, that is not enough, as regardless of the barriers Mr. and Mrs. Arbuthnot have placed between them...... they still love and desire each other. Ultimately, their time at the villa brings both the man and the marriage back to life.
