Emma Woodhouse is the main character (protagonist) of the Austen novel, Emma. She is a young woman growing up during the early 1800's in England. She is a notorious busybody and matchmaker. Wealthy and beautiful, she does not, at least at first, view the world with very realistic eyes. She dotes on her father and sister, but can also be a bit of a snob toward those that she does not consider her social equal. She loves to dance and attend parties and balls.
