Dragonsinger is narrated in the third person by an omniscient (all knowing) narrator. Menolly, the main character of the novel, is also the narrating character. Everything that takes place within the plot of the novel is seen through the eyes of Menolly. Due to the omniscient aspect of the point of view, the reader is allowed access to Menolly's most private thoughts as well as her emotions, even when those around her are unaware of her feelings. This point of view creates an intimacy between the reader and Menolly that might not be present if the writer had chosen to present her novel with a different point of view.
