Michael Quon is a Chinese American, who claims to be in the country finding his Chinese roots. During their first interview, Hulan learns Michael dislikes Lily's profession. He wants Chinese artifacts to stay in Chinese hands. Over time, Michael proves to be smooth, daring, dashing, and well mannered. He even charms Hulan, as he speaks of his wealth and his profession. Michael believes in Yu the Great, and he wishes to connect more with Yu and his historical journey. Growing up in the US, with a mixed heritage, he learned much of his Chinese from a language instructor, and after attending an Ivy League college, he built a company, Vyruscan.

Realizing he didn't fit in in the US, he traveld to China to discover his heritage. Following the Shu Ching, Michael made his way to the Yangtze River, to the Nine Provinces. Hulan later discovers that Michael is actually the founder of the All Patriotic Society, Xiao Da.
