Each of the four novellas in Different Seasons has its own type of language. In the first novella, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, the characters use terms that would be appropriate in a prison, such as calling the guards screws, and calling new prisoners "fish." The overall language tends to be somewhat rough, but not as obscenity-laced as prison-talk might be in actuality.
