Who is Mr. Dobbs from Crazy Lady! and what is their importance?

Mr. Dobbs is a minor character in the novel. He is a widower, and the father of five children. Unfortunately, the grief over losing his wife, and his work schedule, serve to cause distance between Dobbs and his children. Over the course of the novel, Dobbs realizes his mistake and reopens his heart.
