While Faulkner's stories encompass a wide variety of settings, most of them are set in the fictional county of Yoknapatawpha in the actual state of Mississippi. The city of Jefferson, which is included in several stories such as "A Rose for Emily" and "Death Drag," is the capitol of this fictional town. In addition to Yoknapatawpha County Faulkner also has stories set in actual places such as Beverley Hills, California; the Appalachian mountains of East Tennessee; Memphis, Tennessee; Washington D.C. and heaven. These stories are separated into sections, which allows the reader to easily determine where the stories take place.
