One symbol in the Proulx's collection, Wyoming Stories, is the tractor which appears in The Bunchgrass Edge of the World. In the story, Ottaline believes that the tractor speaks to her..... and that it is in love with her. The tractor serves as a symbol of Ottaline's loneliness.
