Describe symbolism in Civil Disobedience, and Other Essays by Henry David Thoreau

Thoreau does not use symbolism in the text. In the essay Walking, however, Thoreau refers to the Rhine River as a metaphor for Europe's rich history and contends that the Mississippi River will one day be a symbol for the United States.
