Bilblical imagery likens the flooding in Sevier County to the great flood in Genesis 6. The characters joke about the whether or not a man with a beard might be building a boat nearby..... another character remarks that the flood is a judgement of sins. In using this imagery, McCarthy likens Lester’s sins to those of humanity and utilizes the flooding as a conclusion to his crimes.
