In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the book, why did Prince Pondicherry write in to Mr. Wonka?

Prince Pondicherry wanted Wonka to build him a palace built entirely out of chocolate. Wonka created the palace but warned the Prince that it could not last. As a result, Pondicherry nearly drown in his own palace.
