When the King pardons El Cid on behalf of his nephews, he goes onto give permission for El Cid's daughters to marry them. Because the nephews are actually working against the King, El Cid has a bad feeling about the pardon and the marriages. His unease foreshadows the public shaming of the Infantes as cowards and their revenge on his daughters.
