why is buddhism and hinduism sometimes considered to be pessimistic religions

Sorry, I don't see pessimism unless you look at them from a worldly point of view. Accepting the reality of things rather than believing in our mental projections and fantasies may seem pessimistic to some: I can see that. There is however peace and joy to be found in the reality we have as well as the inevitable changes in our lives.
