Who is David Smallhorn from Brian's Winter?

David Smallhorn, a Cree trapper, and his family winter in the woods several miles from the location where David's plane crashed. David quickly becomes aware of Brian's presence but doesn't immediately make him aware of his family's. When David hears gunshots, he finds the family's home and is rescued.
