The main conflict at the climax of the novel is Dwayne Hoover versus the world. In his crazy head, that means taking on the "robots" that were programmed just for his amusement. But the real conflict through the whole novel is Dwayne Hoover fighting to not go completely insane, a conflict he loses to create the rampage that serves as the climax.
