Richard Carstone is Mr. Jarndyce's ward. He is handsome, charming, filled with good intentions, and possibly the most impulsive character in the novel. This impulsiveness, however, leads to poor choices and heartache. Even Ada, his true love and eventual wife, cannot urge him from obsession and despair.
