What is the theme in Blackberry Winter by Robert Penn Warren?

I think the juxtaposition between the tramp and Seth's father makes up the theme here. The tramp and Seth's father are character foils to each other. Seth's father is a hard working gentleman while the stranger is vagrant and violent. Although Seth sees his father as the ideal man, he is somewhat drawn to the tramp's unpredictability and mystery.
