Aidid was a warlord of the Haber Gidr clan in Mogadishu who took it upon himself to steal food sent to his country as aid to help those suffering from years of civil war and kept it from the people in an attempt to control them. Aidid had picked a fight with America by interfering with this aid and was the prime target in an attempt to rid the country of unrest and insert a working government in Somalia. It was two of Aidid's high advisors that were the target of the mission that took place on October 3, 1993.
