Who is Sally Dio from Black Cherry Blues and what is their importance?

Sally is a member of the mob. He is temperamental, not very intelligent, and a former convict. Dave and Sally don't get along during Dave's investigation, which prompts a physical confrontation between the two men. The fight, of course, lands Dave in jail. Sally is killed at the end of the novel.
