How does the author use foreshadowing in Big Sur?

In Chapter Nine, Kerouac foreshadows the defining characteristic of his madness in his pointing out at the close of this chapter that he decides to set out the poison Monsanto has put there for the purpose of doing away with the cabin's smaller living creatures.
