Determination and integrity is an underlying idea in the book. Shirer is determined to do a good job no matter what the situation is. Like all good reporters, he checks his facts. The problem however is that the Nazi manage the news. Reporters are not free to broadcast whatever they want. The radio broadcasts have to be approved by the Ministry of Propaganda censors before it can be broadcast. The censors will not allow anything that is not favorable to Germany.
