The fictional character of Anita represents the sinful woman. The governor has just pardoned her for her crimes, and when she hears that he will be attending a nearby reception, she decides to go and show him her gratitude. Anita goes to the reception, taking expensive perfume with her as a gift. As she approaches the governor, she sees his son, who is suffering from a mysterious illness. Anita goes to him, sees that she is forgiven, and cries over his feet, wiping her tears away with her long, flowing hair.
