How does the author use foreshadowing in Astronomer's Wife?

In the story's very first paragraph, we see an example of foreshadowed irony. In this paragraph, Mrs. Ames sings a rhyme to herself after she awakens..... a rhyme about a man who leaves his wife, foreshadowing that in the end..... she will be the one leaving her husband.
