The language of the novel tends to be somewhat stiff and formal. The word choice and sentence construction is appropriately formal due to the fact that the primary characters in the novel are nobility and courtiers of varying degrees. Though fairly formal, the language does not hinder reader comprehension, since the vocabulary is fairly common and the sentences maintain a structure similar to that with which most readers are accustomed . This allows the novel to be understood fairly easily.
