Catherine is Major Petkoff's wife and Raina's mother. Catherine is a conceited, snobby, social climber, who believes herself better than everyone else. Catherine pushes her daughter's marriage to Sergius because she deems him socially appropriate. Raina, however, disagrees and insists she's in love with Bluntschli. Catherine gives into the match after finding out Bluntschli is immensely wealthy.
