Raina Petkoff (Arms and the Man) is a foolish, immature girl who romanticizes about war and love. Through the course of the play she comes to understand what true love is and isn't, and also about the realities of war versus the idealized version. Through the play we see her become a strong, courageous young woman who is ready to offer help to a soldier in need, and to throw off social expecatations by refusing to marry Sergius.
