The Importance of family and friends is a recurring idea. Anne has a fantastic family, consisting of Marilla, her adopted mom, and Davy and Dora, twins who are also adopted by Marilla. Davy and Dora are young, only 9, when Anne is planning to go to college. Davy is visibly upset that Anne is striking out on her own and sobs when she leaves for college.
