Despondent over her loss of her lover to her brother, Ms. Prior takes Mr. Hillitoe's advice and comes to the prison, where he is the warden, and visits with the women prisoners. Ms. Prior believes that it will take her mind off of her problems. She is right. She meets Selina Dawes and becomes interested in her. Mr. Shillitoe stands up for Ms. Prior's decision to continue to see Selina even when other warn that the woman is dangerous.
