Marcus: what makes him stand out?

Marcus Brewer is twelve-years-old, and the son of a single mother. He struggles with his mother's illness (depression), afraid from one moment to the next that his mother might attempt suicide and leave him alone. Marcus is considered strange by his classmates, who often tease him because he often sings aloud and dresses in old fashioned, cheap clothing that make him stand out in a crowd.
