Loyalty is another important theme in this story, and becomes more important following Tang's second meeting with Hi Chi Minh. After that meeting, Tang notes that Minh, who has invited the students to call him "Uncle Ho," has his loyalty. Tang approves of Minh's methodology and puts these same rules to use as he seeks support for the resistance movement of which he is a part. It should be noted that Tang's loyalty seems to lay with the efforts of those seeking to form a new government rather than with his own family.
