Stokely Carmichael was the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He graduated from Howard University, and he was the youngest of the civil rights leaders. Carmichael coined the phrase "black power", which led to a break in the leadership of the civil rights movement. He believed in violence in the name of "self protection" and he wanted to end the paticipation of white volunteers in the marches and protests.
