Throughout this chapter are references to the weather, and in particular, the fog. It is described as being a steaming mist in all the hollows, moving like an evil spirit, and rippling like th waves of an unwholesome sea. This same mist encloses the coach after Jerry has delivered the message to Mr. Lorry.
