Gene and Finny are definitely foils in terms of this particular theme, and actually act as foils to each other throughout the novel. In terms of conformity, Gene is a rule follower. He likes order, and he does what is expected of him. Finny, however, is Gene's polar opposite. He is a rebel, and rules mean nothing to him..... except as something to break.
